Kolkata India: thousands march for sex workers’ rights

Thousands of sex workers marched in Kolkata, India, on Tuesday 25 July. They were demanding the decriminalisation of sex workers, workers’ rights for those employed in the sex industry, and to raise AIDS awareness.

The march was part of an alternative, radical international summit on AIDS; Indian sex workers had been prevented from attending the International AIDS Conference taking place in Washington DC the same week because of visa restrictions.
